The scriptures give us a somewhat different picture than the Old West. In Matthew 7:23, Jesus says, “And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness'” (ESV). Both the King James Version and the American Standard Version of 1901 translate this word “iniquity.” But it is best translated “lawlessness” as the ESV does.

A. There is a great need in our day for fathers to live up to their God-given tasks.
1. One of the reasons that the church is as weak as it is in many places is because fathers are not fulfilling their spiritual duties
2. One of the reasons that some many of the youth of our day are involved in drugs, premarital sex, gangs activity, and a host of other sinful things is because fathers are not fulfilling their responsibilities
B. It is time that we as fathers and grandfathers realize the awesome responsibility we have in molding our children’s spiritual lives

Introduction: 1. Isaiah 2:1-4. A very striking picture of the church, from 700 BC. 2. Old Testament prophecies tell us much, later to be seen in fulfillment in the New Testament.
INTRODUCTION: Read 2 Thessalonians 3:6
1. This passage deals with a specific problem in the Thessalonian church.
2. There were brethren who refused to work for their own living, 2 Thessalonians 3:11
3. These were called “disorderly.” They were without discipline.
4. These did not walk after the tradition received from the apostles. Therefore, they were in sin.
5. We have, in this apostolic injunction, a principle that must be learned by the people of God in every generation. If it is not learned the church withers.
6. WE MUST WITHDRAW OURSELVES FROM THE DISORDERLY.
7. Withdraw means to keep away, stand aloof (Gingrich, Shorter Lexicon).
8. This is not something to be taken lightly but with fear and trembling.

Objectives: Each should know what the scriptures say about being prepared, patient, and expecting the consequences of Jesus return.

INTRODUCTION:

1. The conversion of Saul is given a great deal of space in the New Testament. This speaks to its importance.
1) It shows us what conversion really means. How far do I go?
2) It shows us that God is no respecter of persons in conversion. An apostle had to trust and obey just like you.
3) It shows us that the proper response when one had sinned gravely is submission and not bemoaning that one has sinned too greatly to be saved.
4) It introduces us to the man through whom we would be given so much of the New Testament.
2. This cannot be a study of the life of Paul but must be limited to a study of the conversion of Saul.
Introduction: Matt. 11:28-30
1. An invitation from the Son of God, the Messiah, should certainly capture our attention.
1) One whose word is true.
2) Whose intent is pure.
2. This invitation compels us to make a choice.
1) We can reject it but where will we go for blessing?
2) We can accept it and receive the promised rest.
3. Jesus is specific in His invitation. His call is for those who labor under a heavy load.
SUBJECT: Thanksgiving to God
TITLE: Entering God’s Gates with Thanksgiving
PROPOSITION: We enter God’s gates with thanksgiving because 1) thanksgiving is the only appropriate response for what God has done for us, 2) thanksgiving brings about a change of attitude in our lives, 3) thanksgiving spurs us into action for the welfare and benefit of others.
OBJECTIVE: The hearer should be able to state why he ought to have a heart of thanksgiving to God and how that relates to Christian living.
Aim: That each one would harbor a heart of tremendous gratitude toward God for the blessings he has given us in our lives.
Helpful confrontation is as natural as the confrontation between darkness and light. Do you find it uncomfortable to turn on the light switch? We do it every day so that we can see and not be hindered by darkness. Light confronts darkness (John 1:5). So, also, we should be comfortable in presenting the light of the gospel to others. Are we?
INTRODUCTION:
