INTRODUCTION:

A. Why are you a member of the church of Christ?

1. If you are not a member of the church of Christ, why are you a member of the religious organization that you are?

2. Is it because that was the one your Dad and Mom were members of?

3. Is it because that is the one closest to your home?

4. Is it because it has the nicest building in town?

B. If our neighbor were to ask us why we were a member of the church of Christ, could we give them a sound reason?

A. In Matthew 12:43-45 we will find Jesus describing the spiritual condition of the generation of His day

2. He also described how they would be condemned by the Ninevites and the Queen of Sheba in the Day of Judgment (Matt. 12:41-42)

INTRODUCTION:

A. This morning I would like to give another reason why I am a member of the church of Christ – I am a member of the Church of Christ because it teaches the kingdom has now been established and Christ is now reigning.

B. The future kingdom theory together with the literal reign of Christ upon the earth for a literal 1,000 years has invaded the denominational world, it is publicly being advocated by their preachers, and it has even invaded the decision making of our government.

1. I could never cast my lot with a religious group which is lending its support to such a wild theory.

2. This wild theory is called “Premillennialism”

INTRODUCTION:

A. Illustration: WORKING TOGETHER

Two boys were riding a bicycle built for two and they came to a big steep hill. It took a great deal of struggle for the boys to complete what proved to be a very stiff climb. When they got to the top the boy in front turned to the other and said, “Man, that sure was a hard climb.” The boy in back replied, “Yes, and if I hadn’t kept the brakes on all the way we would certainly have rolled down backwards.”

1. I wonder how many of us have the brakes on with God?

2. I wonder how many of us are working against one another?

B. There are many things that keeps us from working together as we should, but what ever they are – they need to be resolved and/or worked through

INTRODUCTION:

A. The study of the Holy Spirit is a very fascinating, fundamental and foundational study for the child of God.

B. The study of the Holy Spirit is both challenging and consoling, both interesting and intriguing, and both controversial and complex.

C. Minds brilliant and minds not so brilliant have given serious thought to the glorious being of the Holy Spirit.

A. Another way that many are trying to make changes in the Lord’s church is pertaining to its music

1. Instrumental music always seems to loom in the background

2. No doubt a survey of the younger generation among churches of Christ would reveal that they do not consider the instrument in church worship to be objectionable

3. Prominent voices among the change agents have certainly declared their conviction that instrumental music should not be treated as an issue of fellowship

INTRODUCTION: Genesis 3:1-24

A. Have you ever wondered how one could allow a moment of pleasure to destroy his/her marriage or reputation?

1. What causes one to mortgage his life to pay the high price of sin?

2. What causes one to turn his back on God, his family or his brethren?

3. Genesis 3 will give us some insight into these questions.

B. The Bible is a book about sin.

1. Genesis 1 & 2 sets forth man in his innocence.

2. The remaining 1,187 chapters depict man as a sinner, and as one who is in need of grace – the salvation that can only be found in Christ.

3. In this lesson I want us to go back in our minds to the garden of Eden, to a time when sin first entered the world, and notice some very important points that will help us in our daily walk as a Christian.

Sermon on the Bride of Christ. The bride must remember her wedding day and ever be faithful to it. The church is the beautiful bride of Christ.

A. The story is told of a bigoted Chinese man who had refused to hear a missionary preach. Finally, he surprised the missionary by telling him, ‘I have decided to hear the words of your religion — I want to hear about Jesus.’ When asked why the sudden change, the man said, ‘I have heard the laughter in your house, and in the houses of my countryman who have accepted what you preach and I want to hear it too.’

B. When people see the joy we possess as a Christian, they will want to know more about Christianity

1. But is we look like we have been weaned on a sour pickle, they world will probably not be interested in what we have to say.
