The World’s Greatest Power

Categories: Sermon Outlines, Topical Sermon Outlines

INTRODUCTION:

A. Many different things have been invented by man to harness great destructive power.

1. TNT is one of the most powerful man-made explosives.

2. It has been a great labor saving device, enabling men to literally move the mountains aside for railways and roads.

3. Regretfully, man has also used his knowledge of destructive power to wage war.

B. The word “power” in the New Testament is many times translated from the Greek word dunamis.

1. The word dunamis is from where we get our English word dynamite.

2. God’s power, His TNT if you will, is supreme and without limitation.

3. The word of God framed the worlds and by His word they are preserved

4. There is coming a day when at His word the world and all things in it will be destroyed

C. The power of God’s word for us today is in the New Testament.

DISCUSSION:

A. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS THE POWER

1. Romans 1:16

a. The gospel – the New Testament – is God’s power

b. It is God’s power to save

2. The New Testament’s power is described as:

a. A devouring flame … Jeremiah 5:14

b. A crushing hammer … Jeremiah 23:29

c. A defensive weapon … Ephesians 6:17

d. A probing instrument … Hebrews 4:12

B. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS THE ORIGINAL

1. Acts 2:4

2. The Gospel, the New Testament, first began to preached on the day of Pentecost after the resurrection of Christ

a. It was given to the apostles by the power of God through the Holy Spirit

b. It is the original word from God under the Christian age

3. The New Testament is the original, there is no other, there is no other testament of God given to us today that we are to follow in our religious practices.

C. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS THE ONLY SOURCE

1. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

2. The New Testament is the only source of power from God available to us today

3. It gives all that we need to be complete before God (2 Timothy 3:17)

4. It contains all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3)

5. 2 Peter 1:21 … is true of the New Testament writers as well.

D. THE NEW TESTAMENT INVOLVES A NEW LAW

1. Hebrews 8:6-13

2. The New Testament is the law that we are under today

a. The old law was nailed to the cross … Colossians 2:14

b. Ephesians 2:15

3. It is a more excellent covenant

a. Hebrews 7:22

b. Why? Because it was established upon better promises (Hebrews 8:6)

c. Hebrews 10:1-10

E. THE NEW TESTAMENT INVOLVES A NEW PRIESTHOOD

1. Hebrews 7:12

2. Why did the priesthood have to be changed under the New Testament or Covenant?

3. Under the old law the priests had to come from the tribe of Levi, but Jesus was from the tribe of Judah

a. Thus, for Jesus to be our High Priest, there had to be a changing of the law

b. Under the New Testament – Jesus is our High Priest in heaven

F. THE NEW TESTAMENT INVOLVES A NEW MEDIATOR

1. Hebrews 9:11-15

2. It is no longer the levitical high priest and the blood of bulls and goats that mediate for us – but it is Jesus, who obtained our eternal redemption by His own blood

3. Jesus is now our go between, the one who can bring back into the proper relationship with His Father.

G. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS NOW IN FORCE

1. Hebrews 9:15-17

2. A will or a testament is only in force after the one who made it is dead, and after death the covenant is sealed – it cannot be changed

3. Our Lord died on the cruel cross of calvary, and with His death brought into force the New Testament

H. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS TO BE UNCHANGED

1. Galatians 3:15

2. The New Testament will not change – it is the last will and testament of our Lord and Savior

3. There will be no other laws forth coming

4. Matthew 24:35

5. 1 Peter 1:24-25

I. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS THE FINAL WORD FROM GOD

1. As God’s final word – these are those that will judge us in the last day … John 12:48

2. We are not to be looking for any more revelation from God

a. There will be no amendments

b. There will be no footnotes

c. The New Testament is God’s final word

3. There will be no second chances at the judgment

a. There will be no excuses excepted

b. No pleading or crying that we will do will change our fate at the judgment

4. We have the final word from God so there will be no excuses

CONCLUSION:

A. God’s power is:

1. Greater than all the evil in the world

2. More powerful than Satan

3. More powerful than the grave

B. This power is available to us if we will but trust and obey – for there is no other way!
