1. Rest is for the weary–only such can rest. Jews had days, years for themselves, servants, beasts, lands.
2. Jesus promises rest to “weary and heavy laden” in His great invitation if they will come to Him.

TITLE: Why Do We Have Elders?
PROPOSITION: We have elders to 1) Oversee 2) Counsel 3) Shepherd.
Objectives: That each would understand the role elders have in the local congregation.
INTRODUCTION:

1) This context is the only passage of scripture in which we have all three words used to describe the office of the elder.

PROPOSITION: To clarify the Biblical doctrine of faith as it relates to knowledge.

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will answer the question, “Why is it well with my soul?” It is well with my soul because 1) God is in control, 2) All things work together for good, 3) Troubles are temporary, 4) Salvation is available for all, and 5) The end result is victory.
Objectives: Each should be able to explain why things are well with their soul and if not, how to get things well with their soul.
Aim: To encourage the faithful Christian to recognize the peace that he has in his life and to exhort the sinner to gain peace through God’s plan for man’s salvation.

TITLE: The Bible–Its Authority
PROPOSITION: In this lesson, we will BRIEFLY look at four aspects of Bible authority: 1) That the Bible is authoritative, 2) That the Bible constitutes a pattern for faithfulness to God, 3) That to receive the blessings of God we must abide within His authority, 4) That we can know we are living within God’s authority by understanding how God authorizes.
OBJECTIVES: The student should have a basic understanding of Bible authority and be able to state in his own words these four concepts.
AIM: I want to set forth the idea that in order to be faithful to God we must respect and abide by God’s authority.

OBJECTIVES: Each person should be able to teach others the problem of sin, the reason we can’t remedy this situation, and what it was that Jesus did to remedy this situation for us.
AIM: To help each person understand the role of the savior in God’s plan for man’s salvation.

Why in Bethlehem, To Shepherds
INTRODUCTION: Luke 2:8-14
1. On the night of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, an angel appeared and called on mankind to rejoice.
2. Then the hosts of Heaven appeared and glorified God and pronounced peace and goodwill to the inhabitants of planet Earth.
3. The announcement was not made in Rome or Jerusalem or even in the East among wise men.
4. It was made exclusively to the lowly; to shepherds in the field.
5. It makes one wonder, WHY? Why, in the wisdom of God was this announcement made near Bethlehem, to shepherds?
