B. I am a member of the church of Christ because it teaches that a child of God can so sin as to lose his salvation.
C. The doctrine that a child of God cannot so sin as to lose salvation is one that is very prevalent in the denominational world today.
1. A host of people find false comfort in this doctrine of “once saved always saved.”
2. And, I believe that this doctrine leads to apathy, and in many instances – immorality.
C. But what does the Bible says about such a doctrine?

A. In our present day, faith is widely misunderstood.
1. The nature and crucial importance of faith has eluded many in the religious world.
2. Most of the world limit faith to being mere belief, but the Bible has a much deeper meaning placed on this important biblical term

1. The gospel is “the faith” – Jude 3, and those who have obeyed it have been “faithful to the Lord” (Acts 16:15)

2. Has anyone made a promise to you they didn’t keep?
B. A promise is a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified – it is a declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect
C. The word “promise” appears 100 times in the Bible
1. But there are many, many more promises than these in the Bible
2. The Bible contains many different kind of promises:
a. Made to one’s self
b. Man to Man
c. Man to God
d. God to Man
D. The promises of God are certain
1. When we make promises we do not always keep them:
a. Un-purpose
b. Purposely

A. Illustration: WORKING TOGETHER
Two boys were riding a bicycle built for two and they came to a big steep hill. It took a great deal of struggle for the boys to complete what proved to be a very stiff climb. When they got to the top the boy in front turned to the other and said, “Man, that sure was a hard climb.” The boy in back replied, “Yes, and if I hadn’t kept the brakes on all the way we would certainly have rolled down backwards.”
