What Is A Child?

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

President Abraham Lincoln readily recognized the fact that the children of today will develop into the adults and leaders of tomorrow.

Since he was an avid reader of the Bible, he realized the truths found in Deuteronomy 6:1-15 and Psalm 78:1-8. He further realized that any nation whose moral principles were not based upon God’s righteous standard, would not long endure (Proverbs 14:34; Isaiah 58:1-2; Isaiah 60:12; cf. Romans 10:1-3).

He dramatically illustrates these truths in the below quote entitled, “What Is A Child?

A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He is going to sit where you are sitting, and when you are gone he will attend to those things which you think are important. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they will be carried out depends on him. He will assume control of your cities, states, and nations. He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities, and corporations. All your books are going to be judged by him. The fate of humanity is in his hands.
