INTRODUCTION: Read 1 Cor. 2:4-5.

1. The world is full of smart men:

1) with higher degrees,

2) with proven track records,

3) that present their ideas well.

2. Men of proven qualities are sought out, desired for leadership positions.

3. The same was true in Corinth. There were:

1) men who spoke words of wisdom,

2) men that communicated,

3) men that “made sense.”

INTRODUCTION: Numbers 13:26 – Numbers 14:10

1. A short time after they had received the Law at Mt. Sinai the children of Israel were commanded to go into the land of Canaan and possess it.

2. Twelve spies were sent in to view the land and report.

3. Ten of the men balked at going in and led most of Israel with them.

4. Two believed that Israel was ready and able.

INTRODUCTION

A. There are numerous problems that need to be corrected in the Lord’s church today, but perhaps none more than the problem of procrastination.

1. So often, the resources are available, the fields are white unto harvest, and the opportunities abound – but the laborers are few (Mat. 9:37-38)

2. WHY?

a. Is it because so many are unaware of their responsibility to serve

b. Or is it because those who are aware of their responsibility, lack the ability to serve?

c. Or could it be that the majority of folks know their responsibility, have the necessary abilities to render effective service unto God, but just never get around to using those talents?

INTRODUCTION:

A. The concept of spiritual shepherds over the flock of God did not originate in the New Testament

1. That was a role the priests and prophets played in the Mosaic age, and some of them did not take their work seriously

2. Jeremiah 23:1-4

3. Ezekiel 34:1-10

4. Jesus alluded to this work and its abuse during His earthly ministry, when, in speaking of the shepherd, He said – John 10:3-5, 11-12

TITLE: Impediments to Loving Your Brother

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will discuss things that the Bible says impedes loving our brother. We impede ourselves from loving our brother when 1) We put a stumbling block before our brother; 2) We serve self instead of our brother; 3) We bite and devour our brothers, 4) We speak falsehoods to our brothers.

OBJECTIVES: Each listener should be able to understand what kind of behavior God says impedes loving our brothers.

Introduction:

1. Acts 7:38, oracles are what Moses received.

2. Rom. 3:2, oracles of God are what was committed to the Jews.

3. Heb. 5:12, oracles contain 1st principles.

4. 1 Pet. 4:11 contains a limitation prescribed by God.

1) Direction must be direction of oracles.

2) Example must be example of oracles.

3) Speaking must be lined up with the oracles of God.

5. If we need a motto or rallying cry let this be it.

A. Illustration

In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Shun Fujimoto competed in the team gymnastics competition for Japan. In a quest for the gold metal, Fujimoto suffered a broken right knee in the floor exercise. But this injury did not stop him, for during the next week he competed in his strongest event, the rings. His routine was excellent, but he astounded everyone by squarely dismounting with a triple somersault twist on a broken right knee. When asked concerning his feat, he said, “Yes, the pain shot through me like a knife. It brought tears to my eyes. But now I have the gold metal and the pain is gone.”

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will study three choices that need to be made in our lives. We must: 1) choose the right way 2) choose the right attitudes 3) choose the right company.
