Sermon on Spiritual Growth – Sermon outline by Tom Moore listing goals for continued sustained spiritual growth.
Introduction:
1. In our series, we have noted Jesus’ church: The promise to build (Matt. 16:18), and its reality (Acts 2:47).
2. The church is the Lord’s body (Col. 1:18). He is its Head, and the Head regulates the body. We set forth the idea that the New Testament contains a church pattern.
I. The Scriptures Themselves Set Forth The Idea Of A Pattern.
A. All we know, authoritatively, of the church is found therein.
B. And, the Scriptures are inspired of God, to furnish us completely unto every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
1. Obeying the gospel is a good work — an essential one (2 Thess. 1:7-9).
2. In obeying, the Lord adds one to the church (Acts 2:47).
INTRODUCTION:
A. In our last lesson we noticed how we as God people are to be active in Christian service
1. We are obligated – it is our duty – Luke 17:10
2. We will be lost if we are not involved in good works – Matthew 7:21
B. Among the activities we are to be involved in is “together work” with other Christians
1. Our working together as a collective body is essential to the well-being of the church as a whole – and individually
2. We all need to understand the importance of this collective work

OBJECTIVE: To encourage the brethren toward regular, faithful attendance.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read Hebrews 10:19-28.
Introduction:
1. The religious world around us has arranged itself into denominations (distinct parts of the whole).
2. Originally there were a few (Lutheran, Church of England, Presbyterian, Catholic, etc.). Now there are more than a thousand.
3. We must comment on this situation because this idea is nowhere found in the doctrine of Christ. Denominations have no right to exist because they are not found in scripture.
4. The will of Christ is ONE CHURCH, BODY, KINGDOM. (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 4:4; John 3:5)
5. The denominations argue that the totality of the denominations is the one church.
1) The New Testament, however, fails to use the word “church” in that sense.
2) There is the “church universal” (Matthew 16:18) and “church local” (Romans 16:16).
