A. Proper attitudes are very important when it comes to dealing with God’s word

1. Many are rejecting and misunderstanding God’s word because their attitude is not right

2. To many have an attitude of wanting to please self instead of pleasing God

3. The account of Naaman the Syrian will give us insight into the importance of a proper attitude

B. “Naaman” was the commander-in-chief of the Syrian king, who held a high place in the service of the king, and was afflicted with leprosy.

1. Leprosy was a very horrible disease

TITLE: Exercising Godliness

PROPOSITION: What do we need to properly exercise? The truths that apply to physical exercise apply to spiritual exercise as well. What are those truths? 1) Readiness, 2) Repetition, 3) Resistance, 4) Resolution.

Objectives: Each ought to understand what is involved in exercise so that we can exercise godliness.

Aim: To encourage everyone to apply themselves to the Christian life through spiritual exercise.

INTRODUCTION:

A. The concept of spiritual shepherds over the flock of God did not originate in the New Testament

1. That was a role the priests and prophets played in the Mosaic age, and some of them did not take their work seriously

2. Jeremiah 23:1-4

3. Ezekiel 34:1-10

4. Jesus alluded to this work and its abuse during His earthly ministry, when, in speaking of the shepherd, He said – John 10:3-5, 11-12

5. From these passages, we learn that the Lord expected His shepherds to do the following:

INTRODUCTION:

1. Having considered the manifold works of the flesh, we now focus our attention to “the fruit of the Spirit”

1) Have you noticed that the word fruit is singular, while works is plural?

2) This suggests that the individual works of the flesh are varied and not necessarily related

3) But the fruit of the Spirit, though possessing various characteristics, is, in reality, one, made possible by the combination of all nine characteristics in these verses

4) A person may be guilty of the works of the flesh when only committing one of the works

c. It is God’s will that we be thankful – “in everything give thanks” (1 The. 5:18), and we must do the will of God to go to heaven (Mat. 7:21).

PROPOSITION: To set forth “WHEN” the church of Christ was established.

OBJECTIVE: That by knowing “WHEN” the church of Christ was established we can know the church of Christ.

1. What is important to realize in this regard is that “the reception of any truth depends upon the attitude that one has toward it.”

2. We often tell our friends and neighbors that they do not understand God’s truth on baptism or grace because they do not manifest the right attitude toward God’s word of these subjects.

3. Sadly, there are thousands upon thousands of Christians who have closed their ears to what God has said on the subject of giving.

INTRODUCTION:

A. Hebrews 12:18-22, 27-28

1. Inspiration says:

a. You have not come to Mount Sinai (or to any other similar mountain), but you have come to Mount Zion

b. The “Mount Zion” is the Lord’s church

c. The church is a kingdom which cannot be shaken

2. “Cannot be moved” (shaken – ASV) is translated from asaleutos (asaleutos)

a. It means not liable to disorder or overthrow; firm, stable.

b. Luke 6:48

INTRODUCTION:

1. Open your bible please to Colossians 1:24-29.

2. In Colossians 1:24-29 Paul continues to amaze his readers when he speaks of rejoicing in his sufferings.

3. Most people think of many reasons to complain when they experience sufferings.

4. Paul, earlier in life had been beaten and stoned due to his faithfulness to Christ.

5. Paul, as he wrote the letter to those of Colossae was in prison in Rome.

6. Let’s discuss things that Paul says in Colossians 1:24-29 that help us to understand why Paul would rejoice in his sufferings.

TITLE: Things That Unite – One Baptism

PROPOSITION: Baptism unites because 1) It is that which Jesus commanded. 2) It is that which the apostles practiced. 3) It is the point where the new man is created and we are placed into Christ’s body.

Objectives: That each would be able to learn and teach others regarding this critical point of unity.

Aim: That each would understand the uniting factors of baptism.

TITLE: “Man of Sorrows”

PROPOSITION: Why was Jesus a man of sorrows? Jesus was a man of sorrows because 1) though He was the Son of God, yet He chose to live as a servant, 2) though He proved his message to be true, many rejected it, 3) though He was innocent, yet He bore the sins of many.

OBJECTIVES: Each listener should be able to state why the prophet described Jesus as a “man of sorrows.”

1. In light of the fact that we are to be motivated in the pursuit of pleasing God, we are provided with reasons to be motivated, both positive and negative.

2. One of the most effective things God has done for us is to provide examples of commitment in the Scriptures to motivate us.

TITLE: Lessons from the Death of Aaron

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will look at the Bible account of the death of Aaron. Aaron’s death has a message for us today. We must learn these lessons. 1) God takes sin seriously. 2) We have a better high priest. 3) It is appointed to men once to die. 4) We should weep with those who weep. 5) God shows no partiality to men.

OBJECTIVES:To learn more about God and how he relates to man through the example that he provides for us in the death of Aaron.
