Sermon on honesty. God has appointed His children to live differently from the world. The world lives dishonestly. Christians are to be honest.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Honesty is is the divinely appointed standard for men.

1) Pray that we might live a life of honesty. 1 Tim. 2:2

2) Walk honestly toward them that are without. 1 Thessalonians 4:12

3) Provide things honest. Romans 12:17; 2 Corinthians 8:21

4) Have your conversation honest. 1 Peter 2:12

5) Do that which is honest. 2 Corinthians 13:7

2. Even if others are disobedient (2 Corinthians 13:7).

3. Honesty is associated with godliness (1 Tim. 2:2).

4. We are to be honest even when others have been evil to us (Romans 12:17).

I.   HONESTY IS THE SUPERIOR WAY.

1. Better than great revenues. Proverbs 16:8

2. Better than great treasure with trouble. Proverbs 15:16

3. Better than the riches of the wicked. Psalm 37:16

4. Great gain. 1 Tim. 6:6

II.  THE BENEFITS OF HONESTY.

1. To the honest man.

1) Contentment. Hebrews 13:5

2) A quiet and peaceable life. 1 Tim. 2:2

3) A good conscience. Hebrews 13:18

4) The honest are recommended for positions of responsibility. Acts 6:3.

2. To the world.

1) Honesty a factor in the conversion of others. 1 Peter 2:12.

2) The honest produce fruit. Luke 8:15.

III. WHAT IS THE DISHONEST MAN?

1. When it comes to truth he is a liar. Leviticus 19:11; Colossians 3:9; Rev. 21:8

2. When it comes to business he is a cheater. Leviticus 6:2

3. To gain advantage he is a slanderer. Proverbs 6:16, 19

4. When it comes to doctrine he is a false teacher. Romans 16:17-18

5. When it comes to marriage he is an adulterer. Malachi 2:13-16

6. When it comes to employment he’s never worth what you pay him. He is a slacker. Proverbs 17:2

7. When it comes to a promise the dishonest man will break it. Genesis 29:18-25

CONCLUSION: In this sermon on honesty we have seen…

1. Being honest is a matter of the will. Have we truly repented? Luke 13:3

2. Being honest is a matter of training and habit. Philippians 4:8. Romans 12:1-2

3. An honest man is a credit:

1) to his family.

2) to his employer.

3) to the country.

4) to the church.

5) to the world.
