Our Bank Account For One Day
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe following thoughts are from a selected short article in The Sword and Staff publication, Vol. 42, 2004. The message it presents should be of utmost importance to us as we teach and preach the saving gospel of Christ to others:
Imagine there is a bank that credits our account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening there is deleted whatever part of the balance we failed to use during the day. What would we do? Well, we would more than likely draw it all out of the bank.
Each of us has such a bank. Its name is time. Every morning it credits us with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this amount we have failed to invest for good purposes. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft.
Each day it opens a new account for us. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If we fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is ours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against “tomorrow.”
Brethren, we must live in the present on today’s deposits. Let us invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success.
The clock is running. Make the most of today (Ephesians 5:15-16).
