Evolution #2*
Categories: Sermon Outlines, Topical Sermon OutlinesINTRODUCTION:
A. “In the beginning was matter, which begat the ameba, which begat the worm, which begat the fish, which begat the amphibian, which begat the reptile, which begat the lower mammals, which begat the lemur, which begat the monkey, which begat man, who imagined God. This is the genealogy of man.”
1. This was stated by the late, former president of the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism.
2. But there was another man who wrote, “In the beginning, GOD created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1) and this man was Moses, the inspired prophet of God.
B. Who is right?
1. Was a man an accidental product of a system that did not really have him in mind, or is man specially created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26)?
2. Of one things we can be certain: both cannot be true.
3. As Sir Thomas Huxley once stated: “The doctrine of evolution, if consistently accepted, makes it impossible to believe the Bible.”
DISCUSSION:
A. THE YOUNG EARTH
1. There are biblical affirmations that suggest an earth that is relatively young.
a. It can be biblically established that humanity and the earth are approximately the same age, and it can be shown that man’s existence is to be measured in terms of thousands of years, not millions or billions of years.
b. Consider these scriptures:
1) Moses declared that all things were created in the same week (Genesis 1:31), this includes both the earth and man
2) The prophets affirm that the sovereignty of God had been evident to man from the beginning and from the foundation of the earth (Isaiah 40:21).
3) Mark 10:6 … and Jesus should have known for He was there (John 1:1).
4) Romans 1:20 … see by man since the creation
5) Is the Bible true or not?
c. Additionally, the Bible indicates that man’s years upon the earth have been relatively few.
1) In Luke 3 we have the genealogy of Jesus all the way back to Adam, who was the first man (1 Corinthians 15:45).
2) From Jesus to Abraham there are some 55 generations, a span of about 2,000 years at the most.
3) From Abraham to Adam there are about 20 additional generations (a number of which were renowned for longevity).
4) If you take the 2,000 years between the present and Jesus, and the 2,000 years between Jesus and Abraham, and 2,000 to 6,000 years between Abraham and Adam, you have the age of the earth between 6,000 and 10,000 years old.
2. There are scientific evidences for a young earth
a. Dr. Thomas Barnes, a professor in physics says the earth’s magnetic field indicates the earth to be only a few 1,000 years old.
b. Scientists have shown that the diminishing under ground water and oil supply are proof that the earth is only a few thousand years old, diminishing at the rate they are now they would have been gone long ago if the earth was truly millions of years old.
c. Supposedly meteorites have been falling to the earth for millions of years, and yet there are no meteorites found in the so-called older strata ….
d. The human population’s growth indicates an earth only a few thousand years old.
3. The concept of “apparent age”
a. How old was Adam when he was created? …. 2 seconds
b. How old did he look when he was created? …. old enough to procreate
c. In principle this applies to all of creation; though newly created, it must have an apparent age.
d. Consider this: “How would God create anything without it having the appearance of some age???
B. THE GEOLOGIC TIMETABLE
1. The “geologic timetable” is one of the means by which evolutionists present the concept that earth is 4.5 to 5 billion years old.
a. This timetable is a feature in most text books dealing with biology or geology
b. This timetable attempts to show the alleged development of living organisms in an ascending order from the ancient past to the present.
c. The truth of the matter is, this timetable is nothing more than a graphic conglomeration of absurd assumptions.
2. The multiple contradictions characteristic of this geological fabrication would be humorous if the system were not viewed so seriously by many serious and trusting students.
a. The Geologic Timetable …. overhead
b. Note please, that the claim is made that man evolved in the Cenozoic age (current estimates suggest 2 to 3 million years ago). If that is the case how does one explain the following geological discrepancies?
1) Human footprints and dinosaur tracks have been discovered side by side in the same stratum ….
2) Foot prints have been found in the so called Cenozoic age, 250 million years before man’s arrival on earth
3) According to evolutionists, coal was formed during the Cenozoic age millions of years before the birth of man; however, near Glasgow, Scotland, under a mass of bolders, an iron instrument was discovered in a natural seam of coal seven under the surface.
4) Although trilobites (small marine animals with shells) are said to have perished 600 million years before man evolved, human footprints and sandal prints have been found embedded together with trilobites in Utah.
5) Evolutionists assert that trees did not evolve until the Cenozoic period; yet, conifer spores are found in the ages preceding this area (reputedly millions of years before). Geologist Clifford Burdick emphasizes: “No self-respecting evolutionist will concede pine trees in the Precambrian.”
6) Fossilized trees are found vertically penetrating several geological strata, indicating sudden burial before decay could set in, rather than gradual deposition over millions of years.
3. Thus, it is easy to see that the geological timetable is a hoax!
C. EVOLUTION AND PROBABILITY
1. Dr. Emile Borel. one of the world’s experts on mathematical probability, formulated a basic law of probability “This law states that the occurrence of any event where the chances are beyond one in one followed by 50 zeros is an event which we can state with certainty will never happen no matter how much time is allotted and no matter how many conceivable opportunities could exist for the event to take place.”
2. Dr. Carl Sagan has said that the chance of life evolving on one planet is calculated to be one chance in one followed by two billion zeros.
a. A number this large would fill more than 6,000 books of 300 pages each just to write it out.
b. A number this size is so infinitely beyond one followed by 50 zeros it is simply mind boggling.
c. Thus, there is absolutely no chance that life could have evolved on the earth.
3. Why do people believe something that could not have possibly occurred? ……. 2 Corinthians 4:4
