This morning, I received the following tidbits of wisdom from one of my Christian friends via email. I’ve added appropriate Scriptures and article links:
I once viewed a television documentary on foreign countries, which showed a family that had a rotating wheel in their home, which was used with praying (see article). Supposedly, when the wheel was spun, it sent the worshiper’s prayers up to God. Brethren and friends, in one’s worship, there is no difference in praying along […]
A marriage may be “made in heaven” but its maintenance must be done on earth. A wife once said of her husband, “It takes both of us to take out the garbage. I can’t carry it, and my husband can’t remember it.”
Growing up on a farm back in the 1940’s, this writer vividly remembers a time when folks knew how to trim a wick on a kerosene lamp so it wouldn’t smoke up the chimney. I also remember
The expression, “Use it or lose it” is often heard with regard to physical exercise. We know that our muscles must be used in order to insure their greater use in the future.
Recently, my wife and I stopped at a local fast-food restaurant for hamburgers. As we ate in their outside eating area, I noticed that a beautiful blackbird, having midnight black body feathers, coal black tail, and wing feathers, landed in the empty space beside our car. Standing very patiently, I knew that all he wanted […]
The word “transformed” is from the Greek word “metamorphoo,” (to transform or change) and is found only in Romans 12:2 and two of the gospels. In the gospel accounts (Matthew 17:2, Mark 9:2), the term is used with regard to the transfiguration of Jesus.
Three people were once talking about the “best” position for prayer. One thought it was important to hold one’s hands together as he prayed. The second advocated that prayer was best when one was kneeling. The third insisted that standing was a suitable position.
When we think of the fact that sin is running rampant in our country, we cannot restrain a feeling of distress. Jeremiah, the weeping prophet said regarding Judah in Jeremiah 23:10):
The Bible offers wise counsel under every kind of circumstance. We as Christians need to realize this as we stagger under the blows of what wicked men have done to innocent lives and families in Iraq, Afghanistan, across our nation, and various other parts of the world.
From today’s Montana Street bulletin, comes the following above titled article written by Brother John Gipson:
Samuel Griswold Goodrich (1793–1860) was an American author, bookseller, and publisher who believed in the quality and healing properties of cheerfulness.
The historic conclusion of Patrick Henry’s address in 1775 at Richmond, Virginia rings true to us living today. He concluded:
A preacher once tried to help a young man who was constantly disturbed and upset about the weakness and faults of some members of the congregation. He made a small black mark to show on a large white screen, and asked the young man, “What do you see?”
While secular education is certainly important, being educated biblically is far more important because biblical principles teach us how to properly relate to God as well as to our fellowman (Matthew 22:37-40; cf. Deuteronomy 6:5; Deuteronomy 10:12; Deuteronomy 30:6).
Do we believe everything we read in the newspapers? What about the information given on TV news or radio talk shows?
The Apostle Paul exhorted Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2 to, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
A little over six hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Jeremiah came upon the scene in Judah. God’s people had abandoned loyalty to Him and were on the verge of being completely carried away into captivity due to their sins (Jeremiah 25:8-14; Deuteronomy 28:63-64).
What is the goal in life I seek? Whatever do I call my aim? Could it be wealth? Or maybe pow’r? Or is it early fame?
