A Lesson Learned From The Shark

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

The shark is a large ocean fish with an equally large appetite. In fact, so large, that he will swallow almost anything he can get into his mouth.

In the same ocean, dwells a small animal called the “urchin.” The urchin is a parasite in disguise. When the urchin encounters a shark, he will roll himself into a small ball. When the shark swallows the urchin, the urchin unfolds in the shark’s stomach and begins to eat, eventually killing his victim.

We might think, “What a stupid thing it is for the shark to swallow something without first knowing what it is he’s swallowing!” Yes, but, are not many so-called “religious” people like the shark? They will swallow almost anything as “truth” and as a result, will eventually die spiritually (eternal separation from God) (Romans 6:23-NKJV; cf. Isaiah 59:1-4-NKJV).

Brethren and friends, let’s not be taken in hook, line, and sinker with regards to so-called “truth.” Let’s have the same humble and open mindset of the noble Berean Jews in Acts 17:10-11-NKJV, and be willing to daily “search the Scriptures” (they are inspired of God – 2 Timothy 3:16-AMP) to see whether or not the “truth” we’re receiving is actually from God or from man (John 17:17-NKJV; cf. Gal. 1:6-12-NKJV; 1 John 4:1-6-NKJV) .
