What Is Love?

The following linked article provides us with some good information regarding the question, “What Is Love?” True biblical love is expressed in Romans 15:1-3 (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:24; Philippians 2:1-4), where Paul emphasizes a selfless committed love. See also the principle of the Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12 (see commentary). The characteristics of agape love are found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (see article).
The following are some other characteristics of love:
- It is silence — when our words would hurt.
- It is patience — when our neighbor is curt.
- It is deafness — when a scandal flows.
- It is thoughtfulness — for other’s woes.
- It is courage — when misfortune falls.
- It is longsuffering — God’s love towards all (2 Peter 3:9; cf. John 3:16-17; Romans 5:1-8)
