What Does Jesus, Rose Of Sharon Mean To You?
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe above question was asked by Brother Richard Mansel on Facebook yesterday and I’ve included my response in the below remarks:
The phrase, “Rose of Sharon” (Song of Solomon 2:1), is intended to figuratively convey the beauty and attractiveness of Christ.
Thus, Jesus, the beautiful Rose of Sharon, represents the perfect sweet smelling sacrifice to God for not only my sins, but for the sins of all mankind (2 Corinthians 5:21; cf. Exodus 29:14; Hebrews 9:28; Hebrews 13:11-12; 1 Peter 3:18).
Thank God for Jesus’ willing sacrifice (John 10:17-18; Hebrews 2:9-10), so that through the shedding of His blood (Hebrews 9:11-28), our sins can be removed as far from us as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12).
Now, Brethren and friends, what does Jesus, Rose of Sharon mean to you?
“Jesus, Rose of Sharon, bloom within my heart;
Beauties of Thy truth and holiness impart,
That where’re I go my life may shed abroad
Fragrance of the knowledge of the love of God.
Refrain:
Jesus, Blessed Jesus, Rose of Sharon, Rose of Sharon,
Bloom in radiance and in love within my heart.” —Charles H. Gabriel
