TITLE: Three Examples of Sacrifice

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will discuss the meaning of sacrifice. In this lesson we will illustrate this meaning through three examples: 1) a poor person, 2) a preacher, and 3) a pilgrim.

OBJECTIVES:Each hearer should be able to understand and explain what it means to make sacrifices for the Lord.

AIM:I want every person to be renewed in spirit toward making the appropriate sacrifices in their life for the kingdom of God.

SUBJECT: Salvation

TITLE: Words of Encouragement–Love

PROPOSITION: In this sermon on love, we will briefly look at Love in the Bible. 1) God’s love for man; 2) Man’s love for God; 3) Man’s love for one another.

OBJECTIVES: The listener should be able to discuss the various relationships in which love is involved and cite one supporting scripture for each.

AIM: To encourage the brethren by helping them understand God’s love for them; to move the brethren to reciprocate that love to God and toward one another.

INTRODUCTION: Read Genesis 34:25-29

1. The sons of Jacob grew up in a world of winner-take-all attitudes in the company of Laban the Syrian.

1) As they grew to maturity they ignored the lessons of faith learned by Abraham and lived like the world around them where might made right and the “golden” rule was whoever has the gold makes the rules.

2) The record of the immorality of Jacob’s sons begins with Reuben lying with Bilhah, Jacob’s concubine (Genesis 35:22). The consequence of this action was that Reuben lost his first-born status (Genesis 49:3-4).

3) Simeon and Levi showed their cruelty when they slaughtered all the men of Shalem when one of them had defiled Dinah, their sister (Genesis 34:25-26).

4) They sold their brother into Egyptian slavery because of their envy of him (Genesis 37:28).

5) Judah fathered a child by Tamar, his daughter-in-law, when she dressed like a harlot and propositioned him (Genesis 38:15-18).

SERMON ON THE IDENTITY OF MAN

INTRODUCTION:

A. In the very familiar story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32, Jesus made a very interesting statement when He said that, having wasted his inheritance, the young man “came to himself” (Luke 15:17) and decided to go back home.

B. The Prodigal Son changed his course of action for the better when he changed his thinking about himself – that is, when he learned to see the truth about who he really was.

SUBJECT: God

TITLE: The Comfort of God’s Presence

PROPOSITION: From Hebrews 13:5-6 we learn that God’s presence brings some wonderful blessings: 1) Contentment, 2) Help, and 3) Fearlessness.

OBJECTIVE: I hope that each listener will understand that God’s presence brings great blessings.

SUBJECT: Resurrection

TITLE: In the Resurrection

PROPOSITION: Being In the Resurrection means 1) We must have a resurrected life, 2) We will have a resurrected body, 3) We will live forever in heaven.

OBJECTIVES: The hearer should be able to understand the importance of the resurrected life as it relates to eternal resurrection and life in heaven with God and Christ.

AIM: I hope to exhort those living a resurrected life to continue to do so and encourage those who are not to start.

A. A person may be faithful church-goer and live a morally good life, and yet harbor enough “envy” in his heart to damn his soul

1. “Envy” is a common sin, with almost every person having some problem with this green-eyed monster at some time or another.

2. Yet, it is a seldom confessed sin!

B. “Envy” has been pictured as a devilish thing with wide ears for catching slander, with a tongue that is a serpent, and with feet standing in fire as a symbol of the wretchedness that always dogs its steps.

TITLE: Pattern for Salvation

PROPOSITION: We need to go back to the Bible pattern for the 1) Purpose of Salvation, 2) The Place of Salvation, and 3) The Plan of Salvation.

OBJECTIVES: The hearer should be able to understand why salvation is necessary, where salvation is located, and how to obtain salvation.

AIM: I wish to impress upon the hearer the need for salvation and the need to teach salvation.

A. There is an important need in our day and time to discuss the role of women in the church.

1. The denominational world has thrown off the limitation of biblical authority and have gone head-long into error concerning the proper role of women.

2. I have been in the Lord’s church long enough to know that whatever the denominationalists do will sooner or later appeal to some of our brethren.

3. I know of several “Churches of Christ” who have allowed women to occupy positions of authority over men in the church…

SUBJECT: Faith

TITLE: The Bible’s Basis For Faith

PROPOSITION: To teach that the faith of many is based on man’s idea of what faith is and what exactly faith is based on.

OBJECTIVE: That all may trust that the faith they have is based on a biblical foundation

INTRODUCTION: Read Acts 10:34-42

1. Concerning the text:

1) Peter has the privilege of introducing the Gospel to the first Gentile audience, the household of Cornelius.

2) Cornelius tells of the supernatural circumstances of this event, vv. 30-33.

3) Then Peter bears witness, he testifies, vv. 34-42.
