The Universe Was Made
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesEvolution teaches that the creation of the universe was self-generated; that it just “happened” (Big Bang Theory). It also teaches that mankind “evolved” over eons of time separating the initial “big bang” from the commencement of the human family. These two ideas can easily be refuted by the following biblical evidences:
In Romans 1:20, the inspired apostle Paul states, that the “world” (Grk. kosmos – universe) was “made” (cf. John 1:3,10). The Greek word translated “made” is the word ginomai, to begin to be, i.e. to come into existence, or into any state, as implying origin either from natural causes or through special agency; hence, to become, come to pass (Bullinger’s Lexicon To The Greek NT, 1982, p. 473).
Paul is saying that the universe is not eternal (2 Peter 3:10; cf. Psalm 102:25-26; Isaiah 51:6; Matthew 24:35); it was not self-generated. The cosmos (that which is ordered) is an “effect” which points to a Supreme Being.
The Creator of the universe (Christ – John 1:3,10; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:2) Himself declared in Mark 10:6 that man and woman (“male and female”) existed “from the beginning of the creation.” Thus, you can point out to folks who believe in the evolutionary theory the following facts from the above biblical evidences:
- Mankind has existed since the beginning of the creation (Matthew 19:4; Mark 10:6; cf. Genesis 1:27; Genesis 5:1-2); there is no evidence to substantiate evolution.
