The Bible And Murphy's Laws
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesMurphy’s Laws are observations about life that have been brought about by the negative experiences behind them. We’ve all heard this one: “If anything can go wrong, it will.”
And here’s one of Murphy’s Laws that we should hang on the wall as a motto to be seen by our family every day that we live:
“Wrong choices have their consequences.“
For example, if we choose to live for pleasure, that choice will affect our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (Exodus 20:4-5; Psalm 78:1-11). If we abandon God, we may discover that our children have taken that trip with us. Even if we choose to return to Him later on in life, our children may not make the return visit (cf. Judges 2:10-13; 1 Samuel 2:12; ;1 Samuel 2:22-25; 1 Samuel 8:1-3).
But here’s some good news! Devotion to the Lord has its positive consequences. Men and women who live in faith before God, can have a strong influence on their children and their children’s children (Genesis 18:18-20).
If God grants us the blessing of living a long life, we can witness the effect our faith has had on several generations. What satisfaction it brings to older people to see their posterity living for Christ! (Psalm 128:1-6).
Murphy and the Bible agree on this one point:
“Everything has its consequences” (Gal. 6:7).
