The Babe in the Manger
Categories: Sermon Outlines, Topical Sermon Outlines1. At this moment, around the world, people have stopped to remember a babe in a manger.
2. This is the most popular aspect of Jesus. People love the BITM. The babe that people love issues no commands, makes no judgments, calls for no repentance, causes no controversy, This one aspect has been ripped from the context and lifted up as the complete picture of the Christ. People love to remember the BITM, and ignore the rest of the Son of God.
3. Some aspects of the BITM that are largely forgotten during the holiday season are:
1) His authority. Matthew 28:18
2) His example. 1 Peter 2:21
[The most forgotten aspect of the BITM is that He is coming in judgment. Millions who are honoring the BITM this night will be rejected when He comes again.
1. For the obedient His coming is a matter of great comfort and expectation. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
2. For the disobedient this will be a matter of great horror. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Rev. 1:7
3. ALL doctrines and commandments of men will be rejected.
1) John 12:48
2) Matthew 15:9
3) Matthew 7:21-23
4. If the doctrines and commandments of men were universally rejected and the authority of Christ respected all religious observance of Christmas would cease.
5. How then do we remember Christ? Matthew 26:26-28; Acts 20:7
It is a sure sign of men’s rejection of Christ when they fail to remember Him as he commanded. Many who are remembering the BITM tonight fail in this regard.
CONCLUSION:
1. As you remember the BITM do it as God commands.
1) Believe the fact of it.
2) Understand the implications of it.
3) Rejoice and give thanks for God’s precious gift.
4) Leave off the doctrines and commandments of men.
2. Prepare for the judgment. Obey the BITM and have no fear of His return.
