Serving Up The Very Best To God
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesCan we imagine inviting guests over for dinner and then throwing a few leftovers into the microwave to serve them? If we were to do that, would it not speak volumes about how we really feel about them and their importance to us?
The same holds true of our serving God. Giving Him the leftovers of our lives speaks volumes about His true worth to us. When God asked Abraham to give Isaac back to Him as an act of worship (Genesis 22:1 NKJV), He called it a test — a test to see if there was anything in his life that he treasured more than God.
Brethren and friends, it is no different with us. There are times when God will require something really difficult of us in order to accomplish His work.
For example, God may ask us to lay aside our natural instincts of seeking revenge, so that we might demonstrate God’s love (Romans 12:17-21 NKJV). He may call us to sacrifice portions of our time and money in assisting fellow saints (2 Corinthians 8:1-5 – NKJV). He may require us to go to a far-off land to tell others about the saving gospel of Christ (Acts 16:9-10 NKJV).
The manner by which we respond to what He requires, says volumes about how we really feel about Him (cf. Isaiah 6:8 NKJV; Acts 9:1-8 NKJV).
Anyone can offer God the leftovers. Only those who love Him more than anything or anyone will serve up the very best of their lives to Him (Romans 12:1 NKJV; cf. Matthew 16:24-27 NKJV; Matthew 19:16-22 NKJV; Mark 10:17-22 NKJV).
