TITLE: In The Days of Thy Youth

PROPOSITION: In the days of thy youth, 1) learn what it means to be principled, 2) listen to your parents, 3) treasure every moment you have.

Objectives: To teach and encourage our youth to live lives of wisdom.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Ecclesiastes 12:1

2. About the Text:

1) It is good to remember God in our youth.

2) This sets the whole “tone” for our entire life.

3) Psalm 71:17 states, “O God, thou hast taught me from my youth; And hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.”

Sermon on Communication — Unity within the body depends upon communication. In this sermon we will look at some Bible principles related to communication.

INTRODUCTION:

A. Psalm 96:8-9

B. It should be the desire of every child of God to want to know the whole truth on any subject.

1. What is important to realize in this regard is that “the reception of any truth depends upon the attitude that one has toward it.”

2. We often tell our friends and neighbors that they do not understand God’s truth on baptism or grace because they do not manifest the right attitude toward God’s word of these subjects.

3. Sadly, there are thousands upon thousands of Christians who have closed their ears to what God has said on the subject of giving.

SUBJECT: Attitudes

TITLE: What will you do with Jesus?

PROPOSITION: To set forth the three possible attitudes which one can have toward the Christ.

OBJECTIVE: To show that one must accept the Christ-both his humanity and divinity.

INTRODUCTION: Read 1 Corinthians 4:6

1. In dealing with the Corinthian brethren’s tendency to render judgment upon one another based on the wisdom of men Paul gives a basic principle that needs to be heeded today as much as ever.

2. The need for this principle is seen in the great division in the religious world today.

3. The principle implies this:

1) God’s written word is FINAL on any matter it teaches. John 17:17

2) The wisdom of man is insufficient. Jeremiah 10:23

4. To understand why we must not go beyond what is written we must understand:

1) The nature of what is written.

2) The effects of going beyond what is written.

3) The rewards of not going beyond what is written.

INTRODUCTION:

A. A third key item that is being used to fuel change in the church is the unfortunate and misplaced emphasis upon church growth and the desire to be relevant

1. It seems there is no end to the lengths that some will go for church growth

2. Many are like those of Samuel’s days who want to be like the nations around them (1 Sam. 8:20) — many are trying to copy the denominations in evangelism

INTRODUCTION: 2 Cor. 7:9-10

1. Sometimes our translations are not helpful enough.

2. We read a word like “repentance” and wonder if we have a clear conception of the meaning.

1) We don’t use it much in conversation.

2) We are acutely aware that the modern meaning of a word may not convey the meaning of the original.

3. This is a word that is essential to understand. Paul associates it with salvation in our text.

A. Proper attitudes are very important when it comes to dealing with God’s word

1. Many are rejecting and misunderstanding God’s word because their attitude is not right

2. To many have an attitude of wanting to please self instead of pleasing God

3. The account of Naaman the Syrian will give us insight into the importance of a proper attitude

B. “Naaman” was the commander-in-chief of the Syrian king, who held a high place in the service of the king, and was afflicted with leprosy.

1. Leprosy was a very horrible disease

INTRODUCTION:

A. In Mark 12:30-31 we have a very pivotal command for every Christian, a command that is at the very heart of Christianity.

1. If these verses are not engrained in our daily living then we will never be spiritually what we ought to be

2. It is indeed the pivotal command

C. We know these verses, we have heard them often, and we understand that they mean we are to love God with our total being and our neighbor as our self

1. Many claim to love God

2. Many say they love God

3. Many say they love their neighbor
