Remedy For The Blues

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorized

At one time or another, we’ve all experienced them, or at least listened to other people talk about them — the blues. Times of dark discouragement and despair. However there’s hope. The Bible gives us some steps we can take to dispel these dark times of darkness as we look to Jesus — the “light of the world” (John 8:12):

  • “Light” Up Our Heart Through Prayer — As Christians, we can pour out our heart to God when we’re feeling overwhelmed (Psalm 62:8). We can take our worries and frustrations to Him in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7). Another great idea, is to use a journal in writing down our prayers, so we can look back later to see how the Lord has answered us.
  • “Light” Up Our Mind With God’s Truth — When we willingly read and study God’s word every day (2 Timothy 2:15; Acts 17:11), we allow His truth to challenge, permeate, and transform our incorrect thinking that life is hopeless (Psalm 46:1; Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:20-24; 1 Peter 1:13-16).
  • “Light” Up Our Life By Doing God’s Will — His will for us is to worship and serve Him. This will happen only if we stay involved in the Lord’s church, where we can worship and fellowship with other Christians, serving Him (John 4:23-24; Hebrews 10:24-25). This will help us grow in our relationship with God and His people.

Whenever we feel the darkness of the blues begin to close in on us, let’s turn to Jesus, the Light. He will be our ever faithful refuge (Psalm 62:7-8) and will give us the strength to keep going (Isaiah 49:5).
