Proverbially Speaking

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

From the 2006, volume 44, number 1 edition of The Sword and Staff Publication, pg. 2, comes the following proverbs of wisdom (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):

  • Hope insulates against discouragement and despair (Romans 12:12; Romans 15:13; 2 Thessalonians 2:19).
  • Repentance is a change of mind that produces a change of life (see definition).
  • It is only in getting ready to die that we really learn how to live.
  • People with warm hearts are not as likely to get cold feet.
  • If you would enhance your image, just remember that you were made in the “image” and “likeness” of God, and live accordingly (Genesis 1:27; Acts 10:38; 1 John 2:6)
  • Let your word be your bond, and then be bound by your word (Matthew 5:37; James 5:12).
  • By not wasting your time, you will find that you have more time to get things done.
  • Living the restrained life produces unrestrained joy, contentment, and happiness (Philippians 4:4; 1 Timothy 6:8; Romans 14:22).
  • Manners have more to do with what manner of person you are, rather than a set of rules.
  • Live so close to God that there will be no room for the devil to come between (Genesis 5:22-24; Genesis 6:9).
