Proverbially Speaking
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesIn the 2009, volume 47, number 4 edition of The Sword and Staff publication, comes the following proverbs of wisdom (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):
- It takes a good man to give good advice (2 Chronicles 1:7-12; 2 Chronicles 6).
- Genuine repentance can never be realized until we accept full responsibility for our actions (2 Corinthians 7:8-12).
- If we tolerate wrong, and learn to live with compromise, the next step is to accept it (1 Corinthians 5).
- The Old Testament divulges man’s imperfections and the law’s imperfections in being able to do anything about it (Romans 8:1-3; cf. Gal.3:10-14; Gal. 5:1-6; Hebrews 10:1-4).
- Our worship should correspond to the likeness and attributes of God, not to our fleshly tastes for entertainment (1 Peter 1:13-16; cf. Leviticus 11:44-47; Exodus 3:1-5; Joshua 5:13-15.
- Many times, Old Testament imagery is used to foretell New Testament truths (“a shadow of good things to come” – Hebrews 10:1).
- Fiscal responsibility is a Christian responsibility (Romans 13:7-8; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:1-8).
- When leaders will not lead and followers will not follow, needless to say, we are not going anywhere.
- It is better for your horn to go un-tooted than to toot it yourself (Proverbs 27:2; cf. 2 Corinthians 10:7-18).
- We need to take a stand, and withstand the devil, because one day, we will stand before the judgment seat of God (Romans 14:10; 2 Corinthians 5:10; cf. Revelation 20:11-15).
Let’s think about it!
