Proverbially Speaking
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesIn the 2012, volume 50, number 2 edition of The Sword and Staff publication, pg. 2, comes the following proverbs of wisdom (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):
- Wisdom is worthless unless accepted and acted upon (James 1; James 2:14-24).
- After we have been “added” to the church by the Lord (Acts 2:41,47), then there are many things that are to be “added” to our life (2 Peter 1:5-11).
- If we put God first in our lives, we will not come out last (Matthew 6:33).
- Trust the Lord and lean not upon your own understanding, and you will find life less stressful and demanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
- To have a fulfilling life, fill your life full of good works (Matthew 5:14-16; cf. 1 Peter 2:11-12).
- Unfavorable circumstances many times, are the most favorable for the development of godly character (2 Corinthians 12:1-10; cf. 1 Peter 4:12-19).
- Be good for goodness sake (because it is the right thing to do – see 1 Samuel 24:16-19).
- If you are in the dark, it is hard for you to see the bright side of things (2 Corinthians 4:1-4).
- Sometimes, you have to go out on a limb to get the best fruit.
- Unless there is within us that which is above us (Colossians 3:1-4), we will soon yield to that which is about us (Romans 1:21-32).
- If we get ahead of ourselves, we will soon be behind (John 13:16-38; cf. Luke 22:54-62).
- Christ not only showed us what God is like, but what we ought to be (John 14:9; 1 Peter 2:18-25).
