Proverbially Speaking
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesFrom the 2008, volume 46, number 4 edition of The Sword and Staff Publication, pg. 2, comes the following proverbs of wisdom (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):
- Righteousness exalts the nation that exalts righteousness (Proverbs 14:34; Acts 10:35). See article.
- A man’s visible behavior mirrors and reflects the invisible reality of his relationship to God (James 1:19-25).
- You cannot be saved until you realize that you are really lost (Luke 15:17; cf. Psalm 119:58-59).
- If we are living close to God, and others are also living close to God, we should feel close to one another (Romans 12:10; cf. Philippians 2:3-4).
- It takes a lot of kneeling to keep in good standing with God (Acts 16:19-26).
- It is easy for the person who has experienced forgiveness to forgive (Colossians 3:9-13).
- You are not as likely to get “cold feet” if you have a “warm heart” (which includes a receptive heart – Romans 6:16-18).
- Let your speech be better than silence or be silent (Proverbs 17:28; cf. Proverbs 10:19; Proverbs 11:12; Proverbs 13:3).
- Before he would go through a day without prayer, Daniel spent a night in the lion’s den (Daniel 6).
- A doting love is not a healthy and wholesome love (compare 1 Timothy 6:1-4 KJV – “doting” vs. 4 with 1 Timothy 6:1-4 NKJV vs. 4, “obsessed”).
- If a workman is no better than his tools, just think how well equipped the Christian must be (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
- The Bible promises no loaves for the loafer (2 Thessalonians 3:10; cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12).
