On Saturday, January 14, 2012, CBS News reported that a man with a cell phone experienced the alarm of that cell phone to go on and off repeatedly, interrupting a performance of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The ringtone on the cell phone was so distracting, that the conductor of the orchestra had to simply […]

The Birth of The King Vs. 18 – Matthew begins to describe how the birth of Jesus took place. He makes it clear that Mary and Joseph’s relationship was in the betrothal phase and that this was prior to any sexual activity (i.e. “before they came together”). Betrothal was similar to what we would consider […]

As Christians, we know about the blessings Jesus spoke of in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-10). However, there is a “blessing” from the Old Testament that is less well-known: “Blessed is he who considers the poor” (Psalm 41:1).

Our Lord proclaimed, “In your patience possess ye your souls” (Luke 21:19). From this passage it is clear that patience plays an important role in the salvation of the soul. Realizing this, it is imperative that we understand what it is not, what it is, what it accomplishes, and how it is acquired. Patience is […]

An unknown author writes “A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. “Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far […]

The following questions may sound “strange”, but are they really? Let’s seriously think about these questions and take action to correct our thinking if we are guilty of any of these:

The Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt stands as a monument and memorial to the pride of Pharaoh Khufu. The pyramid’s base covers 13 acres. It is estimated to contain 2 to 2.8 million blocks of stone, each weighing from 2 to 15 tons. Some 100,000 slaves spent 20 years in its construction. How unlike […]

In ancient times, the elder men in every city sat alongside the gate, to greet visitors and to dispense wisdom and judgment to the citizens of the community as they came and

We all have walked rose-strewn paths And wept tears of joy through the years. Then suddenly the dark clouds gather, And we cry, “Dear Lord, dry our tears.”

A querist asks, “One of the arguments used to minimize the importance of baptism is found in 1 Corinthians 1:17 where Paul states: “For Christ sent me not to baptize….” Can you please explain in context what Paul

Randal Matheny, missionary to Brazil, has produced an informative website called, “Quick Bible Truths.” The site can be accessed on both Twitter and Facebook.

Are we to understand from Matthew 10:28 that the soul can be destroyed by God in hell or Gehenna? If so, is the word “destroy” used in the same way as we understand its meaning today? There are two questions here that need to be discussed. First, does the Bible teach that the souls of […]

One of the more curious appellations that we find in the scriptures is the name that Jesus gave to the brothers James and John–Boanerges. Mark records this moniker in 3:17 “And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder.” One does […]

Sometimes…. We must be hurt in order to grow; We must fail in order to know, We must lose in order to gain. Some lessons are learned best Only through pain.

It is possible to become deceived (Mark 13:5-6; 2 Peter 3:17). Repeated warnings were given to the early church to warn against a coming falling away (Acts 20:28-30; 2 Thessalonians 2:3; 2 Timothy 4:3-4). Mark 13:5-6: “And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: for many shall come in […]

The mind boggles at the task laid out for Noah. A structure of this size takes months to build with crews of men and machinery. We don’t know the resources at Noah’s disposal. Perhaps he was a wealthy man with manpower to draw on. However we know from the New Testament that God isn’t shy […]

Over the years, I’ve learned not to write or say anything that I wouldn’t sign my name to. If we ever receive a negative, anonymous note, we need to just ignore it. If the person is not willing to sign their name, it’s not worth reading anyway, so we need not take heed of it.

Have you given up on prayer? Some have. They have prayed and prayed without results. They asked but did not receive. Consequently, they begin to question the validity of prayer. Nevertheless, in a time of stress, they still feel the impulse to pray. Why? Because Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given; seek, and […]

When a certified letter is delivered to our door, it usually means we are receiving a very important document. According to several Bible scholars, Phoebe may have been the faithful servant who hand-delivered Paul’s inspired letter to the church in Rome. The letter points

Because of rampant immorality, we could call today’s generation “crooked and perverse,” just as Paul described his own generation in Philippians 2:15. Even Moses would have understood what Paul was talking about, for he said of Israel:
