Introduction:
1. John 7:32 — jewish leaders send officers to arrest the Lord.
2. Verse 33. He pointed to a time when he would no longer be with them, and those seeking could not find him (v. 34). This disturbed them.
I. Jesus’ Teaching Impressed Even The Officers Sent To Arrest Him.
A. He spoke of going to the One who had sent Him (v. 33).
B. He spoke of providing drink to thirsty souls (v. 37).
C. He spoke of the Holy Spirit, and rivers of living waters (v. 38).
D. Verse 45. The officers returned empty handed, stating, “Never man spake like this man!” The Pharisees accused them of being deceived.
II. Let Us See Some Points Regarding “Never Spake A Man Like This Man!”
A. Never man spake like this man of Pre-Existence With The Father
1. No previous man, nor any since, could say such.
2. Equal with God (Phil. 2:6). (Cf. John 1:1-2).
3. “…the glory I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5).
B. Never man spake like this man of Connection With The Father
1. “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9).
2. “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30).
C. Never man spake like this man of Completeness In Obeying The Father
1. “I came not to do my own will” (John 6:38).
2. “I do always those things that please Him” (John 8:29).
D. Never man spake like this man of His Being The Way To God, Exclusively
1. The Way, Truth, Life (John 14:6).
2. John 6:63 — Partake of Him to have life!
E. Never man spake like this man of So Dealing With The Devil
1. “Get thee behind me, Satan!” (Matt. 16:23).
2. “Now is the prince of this world cast out” (John 12:31).
3. He came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).
F. Never man spake of The Heavenly Home Of The Soul
1. John 14:2-3 — Mansions in the Father’s House.
2. Matthew 5:34 — Heaven is God’s throne.
3. In faithfulness, lay up treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:20).
G. Never man spake like this man of The Worth Of The Soul!
1. Worth more than the whole world (Mark 8:36).
2. Eternal — that which men cannot kill (Matt. 10:28).
3. That which goes into God’s care at death (Eccl. 12:7).
Conclusion:
1. Never man spake like this man! He authored the plan by which men are to be saved (Heb. 5:9). There is NO other plan!
2. The gospel, God’s power to save (Rom. 1:16), requires faith, repentance, confession of Christ, and baptism into Christ for remission of sins.
3. This one, the Christ, also is the judge before whom we shall all one day stand (2 Cor. 5:10). You need to obey Him — NOW!
