“Light” In Times Of Dark Discouragement
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesWe’ve all experienced the blues and times of dark discouragement. During these times, we can think about and act upon the following thoughts from the “light” of God’s Word (Psalm 119:105; Proverbs 6:23):
1) When we’re feeling overwhelmed and anxious, we can “light” up our hearts through prayer (Psalm 62:8; Philippians 4:6-7). A good idea is to write down our prayers, looking back later to see how the Lord has answered them.
2) We can “light” up our minds with God’s truth every day (Acts 17:11). Allowing it to challenge, permeate, and transform our incorrect thinking that life is hopeless (Psalm 46:1; Romans 12:2).
3) We can “light” up our life by doing God’s will – through worship and service to Him, and by serving fellow Christians (Hebrews 10:23-25). This will help us grow in faithfulness to our heavenly Father.
When we feel darkness begin to close in on us, we need to turn to God, the “Light” (1 John 1:5). He will not only be our refuge, but will give us the strength to keep going (Psalm 62:7-8).
Remember, we won’t stumble in times of dark discouragement, if we will continually walk in the “light” of God’s Word (1 John 1:7).
