Let’s Return To The Bible!

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

In 1 Corinthians 1:10, the inspired apostle Paul states: “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”

The enemies of Christ love to see many divisions among people who claim to follow Him. When people see such division, many of them are confused by it, and some reject Christ and their own eternal salvation because of it.

That is why Jesus prayed, “Neither pray I for these alone (the apostles), but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (John 17:20-21).

Returning To Bible Authority

Let us return to the Bible as our only spiritual authority. Let us simply be “Christians” by obeying the same gospel of Christ which the people obeyed in the first century. Let us be the church of Christ in each city, without any man-made organization ruling over the local churches.

Honoring Christ As The Head Of The Church

Let each local church honor Christ as Head over all the church (Ephesians 1:20-23) by studying and obeying His New Testament (2 Timothy 2:15; Romans 1:1-5; Romans 16:25-26). Let us be content to have our “headquarters” where our Head is – in heaven itself, where Christ is reigning at the right hand of the throne of God (Ephesians 1:20-23).

Conclusion

Commandments of men are worthless: “But in vain (in emptiness) do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matthew 15:9). The apostle John gave us a warning and a promise when he wrote, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not (does not remain) in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son” (2 John 1:9).
