Knowing Where The Safe Channel Is
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe story is told of a ship Captain who was once standing on the bow of his ship with binoculars, carefully watching every rock that protruded above the water.
Being sorely frightened, one of the passengers came to the Captain and asked, “Sir, do you know where all the rocks are?”
The Captain answered, “No, I don’t know where all the rocks are.”
The passenger replied, “If you don’t know where all the rocks are, what’s to keep us from shipwreck?”
The Captain confidently answered, “I know where the safe channel is.”
In similar fashion, we don’t need to know where all the rocks (false religions) are, for there are hundreds and even thousands of false doctrines being taught and practiced today.
Even if we took the time to familiarize ourselves with all of the false doctrines of the world, it would be a waste of our time.
Why?
Because corrupt and perverse men would continue to produce many more false doctrines for us to learn (Gal. 1:6-7; 2 Peter 2:1).
What we do desperately need to know, however, is where the safe channel is, i.e., the inspired Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16).
When we are thoroughly acquainted with the safe channel (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV), we won’t have to be concerned with the rocks along the way, because following that channel (Ephesians 4:11-15) leads to life eternal (John 14:6; cf. John 6:66-68).
Let’s think about it!
