In A Hurry To Get Nowhere?
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesFrom time to time, while driving down Interstate 10 here in El Paso (type in El Paso, Texas for a satellite view), I notice there are a lot of folks in a hurry to get nowhere. I know this is true, because they are “all” exceeding the speed limit, and it’s not because of any emergency that exists.
So my question is, “Why be in a hurry to get nowhere?” Perhaps it’s just a habit being carried over from the pressures of the workplace caused by having to meet too many deadlines.
But whatever the reason, let’s slow down and “think” for a moment. Instead of always being in a hurry to get nowhere (spiritually speaking). How about being in a hurry to get “somewhere” (spiritually speaking).
It we’re going to be in a hurry, let’s be in a hurry to:
- Make the kingdom of God priority number one (Matthew 6:33).
- Let our light shine before men (Matthew 5:14-16; 1 Peter 2:11-12).
- Be spiritually minded (Colossians 3:1-4; cf. Romans 8:6).
- Go about doing good (Acts 10:38).
- Study and make application of God’s word in order to grow spiritually (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV; cf. 1 Peter 2:1-2; Colossians 1:3-10; Hebrews 5:12-14).
- Attend every assembly possible (Hebrews 10:25; cf. Acts 2:42).
- Be involved in doing the Lord’s work (1 Corinthians 15:58).
- Encourage others in doing the Lord’s work (Acts 9:23-31; Hebrews 10:23-24).
- Teach some lost soul (or souls), the saving gospel of Christ (Acts 5:42; Acts 8:4; cf. Acts 8:25-35; Acts 10:19-48; Acts 18:24-28) so they may teach others (2 Timothy 2:1-2).
- Assist those in need as we have ability and opportunity to do so (James 1:27; 1 John 3:15-17; Gal. 6:9-10; Titus 3:8; cf. Luke 3:11; Deuteronomy 15:7-12).
- Share our material blessings with others (Mark 12:41-44; cf. Acts 2:44-45; Acts 4:34-37; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5).
- Be an godly example to both Christian and non-Christian alike (1 Corinthians 11:1; Philippians 3:17; 1 Timothy 3:7; 1 Timothy 4:12-16; 1 Peter 3:15-17; cf. Colossians 4:5-6; 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12).
