How To Enjoy Reading The Greatest Of All Books
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesOnce upon a time, there was young lady who, after reading a book, remarked that it was the dullest book that she had ever read. Not long after this event, she met a young man, and in the course of their relationship, they fell madly in love with one another. After a short period of time, the couple were engaged to be married.
As they were talking one evening, she said to him, “I have book in my library written by a man whose name is the same as yours — isn’t that a coincidence?” The young man replied, “I don’t think so.” “Why not?” she asked. He answered, “For the simple reason that I wrote the book.”
Later that evening, the young lady again took the book that she had deemed the dullest book she had ever read, and started reading it again, staying up until the early morning hours. When she had finished reading the book the second time, it seemed to her to be the most interesting book she had ever read.
Why wasn’t the contents of the book still dull to the young lady after the second reading? Simply because she knew and loved the author.
Brethren and friends, the same holds true for us today. We will enjoy reading the greatest of all books, only if we know and love the Author (1 John 2:1-5-NKJV; 1 John 4:19-NKJV; cf. John 3:16-17-NKJV).
