God Will Carry Us Through
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorizedA father was reading a bedtime story to his young daughter, as he did almost every night before she went to sleep. She had chosen a zoo book, and to her active imagination, it was as if she and her father were actually there at the zoo.
As she looked happily at the pages with the giraffes, zebras, and elephants, she came to the page with the grizzly bears. She told her father, “You would have to carry me.” She said the same thing when she saw the gorillas on the next page. Curious, her dad asked her why he would have to carry her. “Because I’d be scared,” came her straightforward reply.
When the Israelites saw that the fierce Amorites and Anakim were in the land ahead of them, they too were afraid (Deuteronomy 1:26-33). So Moses, reminded them of how God helped them in the wilderness — “You saw how the Lord your God carried you” (Deuteronomy 1:31). And He would carry them again and again.
We can be certain that the Lord will do the same for us when we are afraid. When the scary times come, when we are called on to do the hard things life demands, God will lift us up and carry us along. He gives us His strength in Christ (Philippians 4:13; cf. John 15:5).
Is there something frightening in our life? Are there some difficult things we know we have to do? Let’s ask our heavenly Father to see us through (Psalm 23:4). He will gladly hold us in His loving arms and carry us.
To him that o’ercometh,
God giveth a crown;
Thru faith we shall conquer,
Tho’ often cast down;
He who is our Savior
Our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus:
He’ll carry you thru.
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you thru. —H.R. Palmer
