God Only Needs One Person
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesHistory is replete with documented evidence of wicked rulers whose design was to rule and manipulate the masses. Through historical documents, we can clearly see the horrible progression of events that led to genocide, persecution, and virtual slavery.
When Mordecai learned of the wicked Haman’s plot to exterminate the Jews, he did not stand on the sidelines and remain silent, but asked Esther to intercede in behalf of her people, risking her own life before the king (Esther 3-4).
Through God’s mercy and providence, not only were the Jews spared the slaughter that Haman had so wickedly devised (Esther 8-9), but Haman himself was hanged on the very gallows that had been prepared for Moredecai (Esther 6-7).
Brethren and friends, we may not have an opportunity to thwart a plot against an entire nation, as Mordecai and Esther had, but we do have daily opportunities afforded us that will change a small portion of history one person at a time.
For example, we can speak up when there is unjust criticism. We can be instrumental in breaking up any cycle of gossip. We can speak up and defend someone who cannot speak for himself. We can be the voice for the disenfranchised, refusing to look away.
It only takes one person speaking up, who allows himself or herself to be used by God, to change the course of history in another individual’s life or yes, even a whole nation.
God only needs one person. Will we be that person? (Proverbs 31:8-9; cf. Job 29:1-16; Isaiah 1:17).
