Favorite Non-Biblical Quote
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorizedOne of last week’s “Nudges” from The Fellowship Room was, “What is your favorite non-biblical quote?” My favorite non-biblical quote is from William Wordsworth’s, “The World Is Too Much With Us” – especially the first four lines:
“The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!”
As the poem suggests, many human beings are too preoccupied with the material (“The world…getting and spending”) and have lost touch with the spiritual and with nature (Colossians 3:1-3; Acts 14:15-17; Acts 17:24-25).
What a sad commentary on our society today.
