Disturbing Trends In The Brotherhood

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

Today, fellow Christians in “The Fellowship Room” have been discussing some disturbing “trends” presently occurring in the brotherhood.

Some of the trends being discussed are:

  • The abandoning of Bible authority (Colossians 3:17), resulting in a “do your own thing” type of worship (called “will worship” in Colossians 2:23 KJV).
  • The desire for the Lord’s church to be like the denominations round about them (cf. 1 Samuel 8:5; 1 Samuel 8:19-20).
  • A growing ignorance of the holy Scriptures within the church, resulting in a lack of proper spiritual growth (Ephesians 4:14-16). The cure for such being found in Ephesians 4:17-21, i.e., returning to the doctrine of Christ (2 John 1:9-10; cf. Acts 17:11; 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV).

Brother Wayne Jackson, editor of the Christian Courier, makes some other significant observations regarding trends and specific needs of the Lord’s church, in an article written by Bro. Steve Lloyd in 2002, as he interviewed Bro. Jackson.

Brethren, it seems an increasing number of churches are communicating the message that “anything goes.” However, we can’t “call” people out of the world if they don’t “see” a difference between the church and the world.

Let’s ask ourselves, “Why seek religion if religion is just a reflection of the society we are already in?”

We need to seriously think about the above disturbing trends within the brotherhood, and then take the necessary action to bring about a scriptural remedy.
