Considering What A Passage Does “Not” Say

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

When we study the Bible and consider what a passage does “not” say, God’s truth becomes vividly impressed on our minds.

For example, when the Jews on the day of Pentecost asked Peter and the rest of the apostles what to do to be saved, Peter did not say, “You are already saved since you have faith.”

He did not say, “Pray through to be saved,” or, “Come to the mourner’s bench or prayer altar.”

He did not say, “Accept Christ as your personal Savior,” or “Just call on the name of the Lord.” He did not say, “Confess that God for Christ’s sake has pardoned your sins.”

Instead, Peter by inspiration said,

Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

Let this inspired truth be vividly impressed on our minds.
