The following story and its subsequent application is just as valuable for us living today as it was when it was written. Sadly, many of us hunt for treasure that has been right in front of our face all of the time, but we either can’t (or won’t) recognize it as such:

In the October-November-December, 2011 Issue of the brotherhood publication, “Think On These Things,” brother David Diestelkamp has written the following above titled article: Abstinence Is Reasonable (scroll down page). In his good article, brother Diestelkamp writes the following regarding abstinence:

Experts in bee behavior say that bees cannot live in isolation. You might capture one bee and provide for him the best environment and ideal living conditions, but within three days he will die. It is essential that he be with other bees. The association in the bee community (hive existence), keeps all the bees […]

It is no secret that I have been involved in a good amount of exercise over the past several months. One of the things that I have experienced in exercising is the so-called “runner’s high.” During cardiovascular exercise, the body reaches a point where it releases “feel-good” chemicals known as endorphins. One of the effects […]

More and more Christians are not grounded in how to ascertain and apply Bible authority. While most Christians agree that “we must have Bible authority for all that we believe and do”, many do not know where to go from there. This has led to many unauthorized and sinful doctrines and practices within churches of […]

The Bible records a surprising source of energy from the food that God provided Elijah the prophet. We recall that Elijah had been used by God on Mt. Carmel to call fire down from heaven (1 Kings 19:17-39). This occurrence was followed by a period of persecution and depression (1 Kings 19:1-4). In response to […]

From today’s Montana Street bulletin, comes the following article by Brother John Helbig, preacher for the Longmire Road congregation located in Conroe, Texas:

As human beings, death is not some subject we relish talking about. However, as Paul faced imprisonment and the prospect of dying in a jail cell, he shared a great perspective regarding life and death:

Back in the fifteenth century, in a tiny village near Nuremberg, lived a family with eighteen children. Eighteen! In order merely to keep food on the table for this mob, the father and head of the household, a goldsmith by profession, worked almost eighteen hours a day at his trade and any other paying chore […]

Brother Rick Liggin, one of the writers for the “Think On These Things” publication, provides some interesting thoughts regarding 1 Corinthians 14:34-NASB, in his article

Many hundreds of years ago in a small Italian town, a merchant had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the merchant’s beautiful daughter, so he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the merchant’s debt if he could marry the merchant’s […]

There’s advantages in growing old. For example, the turbulence of youth is gone, with all of its quarrels, adolescent adjustments and secret fears. There’s no need in maturity to explain oneself anymore. An older person is accepted for what he is and as he is.

I was regretting the past, and fearing the future. Suddenly my Lord was speaking: “My name is I Am”. He paused. I waited. He continued, “When you live in the past, with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not I WAS. When you live in the future, […]

Today (Friday) my mind is on a mentor of mine, brother Johnny Ramsey. He passed away last night (Thursday). It is reported that this past week he was, even in his delirious state, quoting scripture and exhorting young preachers to be faithful to the word. He was hard wired with the Bible. I first came […]

A querist asks, “Why is there anything rather than nothing? If there was ever a time when nothing existed, nothing would exist now, for something cannot come from nothing. Since something exists now,

Pop music icon, Whitney Houston, will be remembered Saturday in New Jersey at a private memorial service. Many celebrities in the music and entertainment industry will be in attendance. Whitney was only 48 years old at the time of her death, a relatively young woman with an already successful singing career, cut short in the […]

Paul Harvey, much beloved radio personality, once quipped, “Vegetarian is an old Indian word for ‘doesn’t hunt well.’” I like vegetables, but I am no vegetarian; I like meat — all kinds. I like beef, pork, chicken, fish, and squirrel. You didn’t expect the last one, did you? Did you forget that I grew up in […]

Just before the Christmas break, I was asked by a parent at one of our local elementary school libraries, to provide her son with some wisdom that I had garnered over my lifetime. Why she asked me to provide some wisdom for her son, I don’t know, for I’m not very wise at times.

When I awake, what will I see? As I step into eternity? No longer frail or just a breath As man on earth is said to be! Sin brought death to all mankind But death for me is silver lined, A triumphant cry, the victors shout Saved by grace, there is no doubt! A stranger […]

In Psalm 51, David seems to contradict himself when he exclaims, “You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering” (Psalm 51:16 – NKJV). Three verses later, he says, “You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of
