Barbs …. With A Point

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

The following barbs of wisdom come from The Sword and Staff publication, 2008, Volume 46, Number 2; pg. 13 (appropriate Scriptures and related articles have been added):

  • You must get right and live right before you can expect to die right (Revelation 14:13).
  • Strong drink is the devil’s brew to ensnare, enslave and make a fool of you (Proverbs 20:1; cf. Romans 6:16).
  • It is good to take a stand for Christ, but we need to do more than just stand there (1 Corinthians 15:58).
  • People who are hard to “get along with” are likewise people who are not getting along well with the Lord or with themselves (Romans 2:1-5).
  • Your character is made evident in what you think is laughable (1 Corinthians 13:6).
  • What some churches mean when they talk about being “relevant,” is to accommodate the sinners in their sins (1 Corinthians 5).
  • You do not cohabit and live together as man and wife until you are man and wife (Hebrews 13:4).
  • Procrastination is the thief of time (Ephesians 5:15-16).
  • The “abundant life” is not found in the abundance of “things” (Luke 12:15 NKJV; John 10:10 NKJV).
  • The more “way out” a person dresses and mimics the world, the more evident and obvious are his insecurities.
  • Preaching should comfort the distressed and distress the comfortable (2 Timothy 4:2-5).
  • If you are a dishonest person, you have destroyed the foundation for all other good traits of character.
  • If grace does not make us gracious, and we continue in the crudeness of our sins, it has not accomplished its purpose in our lives (Romans 6:1-2).
  • If you are not honest, are you expecting too much in wanting life to treat you fair? (Romans 12:17).
  • Which is worse — a child afraid of the dark, or an adult afraid of the light? (John 3:19-20).
  • Count it as a day lost forever wherein nothing good has been accomplished and nothing new learned.
  • Zeal without knowledge is like a car speeding down the highway at a terrific speed, not knowing where it is going (Romans 10:1-2).
  • Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people, and hell is a prepared place for an unprepared people — are you prepared? (Matthew 25:1-13).
