Are We “Helping” Or “Honking?”
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorizedA woman driver was having difficulties getting her automobile started after it had stalled in traffic. The gentleman (?) in the car behind her insisted on expressing his impatience with her by blowing his horn every few seconds.
Finally, the lady worn out by his thoughtlessness, stepped out of her automobile, walked back to the honker’s car and said, “I’m having some difficulty in getting my car started. If you’ll go and see if you can start it, I’ll honk your horn for you.”
A lot of folks in the church do more “honking” than “helping!” There are more “talkers” than “workers,” and more “criticism” than “labor.” The ones who do the most “honking” generally do the “least working.”
They may have never preached a sermon, taught a Bible class, led a song service, or served as an elder, deacon, or personal worker, but they do know “how it should be done.”
They are like the chronic objector who was asked for his suggestion on a project being discussed in a business meeting. He said, “You go ahead and make the plans and I’ll tell you what’s wrong with them!”
It is much easier to criticize [honk], than to do the work.
What the Lord’s church needs, is more members willing to work for the Lord. Almost everyone is in favor of going to heaven, but too many are hoping they will live long enough to see the Lord ease the entrance requirements.
The Lord needs for us to get busy doing and living His will (Matthew 7:21); Attend Bible study and worship (Hebrews 10:25; 2 Timothy 2:15; Acts 2:42); Seek the Lord’s church first (Matthew 6:33); Be ready to do good works in the Lord’s name (Titus 2:14; Titus 3:14); Daily live by the New Testament (Matthew 10:22; 2 John 1:9-11; Revelation 2:10).
