“And It Was So”
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorizedThese words are repeated several times in Genesis 1:1-31, regarding the creation, “And it was so.”
Whatever God said — it happened. “Let there be light …. Let there be a firmament …. Let the earth bring forth grass ….” Then, each time, the words: “And it was so.” God spoke the words, and it became a reality.
As I read about the beginning of the universe, our world, and the power of God, I start to think about some other things God and His Son Jesus have said — things we can count on.
When Jesus was talking about His followers, He said:
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:28).
If we continue to “walk in the light” of God’s word (1 John 1:7; Psalm 119:105), we can be assured of eternal life and live with Him forever.
The writer to the Hebrews said:
“Be content with such things as you have. For [God] Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you'” (Hebrews 13:5).
We can be sure that our needs will be met and that we won’t be left alone.
One of Jesus’ most comforting promises is “I will come again and receive you to Myself” (John 14:3). He said it; therefore, we can believe it, and wait confidently for that exiting day.
We can count on God’s word because when He speaks — “And it was so.”
