Alice And The Broken Fruit Jar

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

The story is told of a little girl by the name of Alice who one day broke a fruit jar by accident. Several of her brothers and sisters were nearby when the accident occurred, but her father had an idea of who the guilty party was. Alice’s father turned to her and asked, “Did you break the fruit jar, Alice?”

As Alice looked into her father’s large brown eyes, she knew that he wanted her to tell the truth, but she was afraid that he might punish her if she did. Nonetheless, she truthfully stated to her father “Yes, I broke the jar.”

With love in his eyes, her father immediately embraced her. In that moment, Alice felt an inner peace that resulted in a closer relationship between her and her father.

Brethren and friends, we will always feel better within ourselves when we tell the truth, no matter how difficult it might be or what repercussions might come upon us as a result (1 Peter 3:10-17; cf. Hebrews 13:18).

We are to do right because it is right according to God’s righteous standard (Romans 10:1-4; Ephesians 4:17-25;  Colossians 3:9; cf. Psalm 119:151,172).

Let’s think about it!
