Man's Information Or God's Wisdom?
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesWith today’s amazing technology, the amount of knowledge we can acquire is seemingly limitless. Using the marvel of the Internet, we are able to tap into incredible sources of information.
Bill Gates believes that mankind is at the threshold of far greater wonders. In his book, “The Road Ahead,” Mr. Gates makes the following prediction:
“When tomorrow’s powerful information machines are connected on the highway …. you’ll be able to stay in touch with anyone, anywhere, who wants to stay in touch with you; to browse through any of thousands of libraries day or night.”
Even though we are grateful for the technology that makes available such remarkable means of obtaining information, a mere accumulation of facts doesn’t add up to insight and understanding.
For example, all of the philosophers and scientists in the world can’t provide us with information regarding God’s will (Romans 12:3), His grace (Ephesians 2:8; Titus 2:11), or the good news regarding salvation from sin (Acts 13:14-38). To gain that knowledge, requires us to open the Bible — God’s inspired information source (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
Dear reader, let us not squander our time in merely acquiring information provided by man, but let us study the truth that God has given us in His Word (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 2:15 ASV), remembering that only “The Lord gives wisdom” (Proverbs 2:6; James 1:5).
