SUBJECT: The Church
PROPOSITION: To set forth God’s reason for the church of Christ.
OBJECTIVE: That we be members of God’s church of Christ.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Read: Ephesians 3:8-11.
2. Regarding the text:
1) God is:
a. All powerful [omnipotent];
b. All loving [omnibenevolent]; and
c. All knowing [omniscient],
2) In eternity, God was, is and always will be prepared for every situation, even man’s sin.
3) Man’s problem is sin, Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2.
4) God’s eternal remedy for sin is the church of Christ.
5) This is the wisdom of God, 1 Corinthians 2:6-13; 1:18-21.
3. Reference to Subject, Title, Proposition and Objective.
DISCUSSION: The church of Christ was established –
I. BECAUSE MAN COULD NOT SAVE HIMSELF.
1. Romans 6:23; 3:9.
2. Matthew 26:39.
3. Luke 17:7-10.
4. Matthew 18:23-35.
5. Luke 19:10
II. BECAUSE GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING HUMANITY REALLY NEEDS.
1. Matthew 6:7-8.
2. What do we really NEED?
3. Food, clothing and shelter, yes, even companionship are only “necessary?” while we have physical life.
4. We do not need physical life, it is a gift which God can revoke at any instant.
5. The only real need, therefore is spiritual, Matthew 6:33.
III. TO DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE.
1. Consider the wisdom of men and foolishness of God, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25.
2. Consider “the word of the cross.”
3. Luke 8:11.
4. John 16:12-14.
5. “Attend the church of your choice”?
6. 1 Corinthians 4:6.
IV. TO SAVE THE SOULS OF MEN.
1. Ephesians 5:23.
2. Colossians 1:18.
3. 1 Corinthians 12:13.
4. Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:26-27.

CONCLUSION:
1. The church of Christ was established:
1) BECAUSE MAN COULD NOT SAVE HIMSELF;
2) BECAUSE GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING HUMANITY REALLY NEEDS;
3) TO DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE; and
4) TO SAVE THE SOULS OF MEN.
