We Can Overcome
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThere are many things that we can overcome through the help of our Savior (Philippians 4:17; cf. 1 John 4:4-5), but for brevity’s sake, we’ll list the following ten:
- We can overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21; cf. 1 Samuel 24:16-19).
- We can overcome self by denying self (Matthew 16:24; cf. Philippians 3:4-10).
- We can overcome the world by our walk of faith (1 John 5:4-5; cf. Romans 10:17; 2 Corinthians 5:7).
- We can overcome bad thoughts by thinking on pure things (Philippians 4:8-9; cf. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6).
- We can overcome the fear of death by accepting the certainty of the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:16-23,54-57; cf. Romans 8:33-39).
- We can overcome sin by accepting the only perfect sacrifice for sin (2 Corinthians 5:20-21; cf. Hebrews 5:9; Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 2:2).
- We can overcome prejudices by loving all men (Matthew 5:43-48; cf. Gal. 6:10).
- We can overcome pride by developing humility (John 13:1-17; cf. Philippians 2:5-8).
- We can overcome worldly loss by investing in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21; cf. 1 Timothy 6:17-19).
- We can overcome sorrow by counting all things as joy (2 Corinthians 6:1-10; James 1:1-5) — even when being persecuted (Acts 5:29-42).
Brethren, we can overcome anything the world throws at us because Christ overcame the world (John 16:33; Matthew 4:1-11; 1 John 4:4-5; cf. Romans 12:1-2).
