Verily, Verily and the Kingdom of God

Categories: Easy Sermons to Preach, Sermon Outlines, Short Sermon Outlines, Short Sermons, Textual Sermon Outlines

Introduction: John 3:3-5

1. The first, foremost and most natural form of entry into a kingdom of this earth is by birth. Being a native born has always been preferred to being naturalized.

2. It is even more exclusive with the kingdom of God. There is no other way.

3. Jesus makes sure we know there is NO OTHER WAY by stamping it with VERILY, VERILY!

DISCUSSION:

I.   Not by Natural Human Birth, vv. 4-5

1. Nicodemus was making this mistake.

2. Jesus says not through mother’s womb.

3. Many count salvation because of lineage.

4. John the Baptist says, “And think not…,” Matt. 3:9

5. With the spiritual kingdom there must be a spiritual birth.

II.  Not by Works of Merit

1. An earthly kingdom may grant citizenship or other honors based on merit, or services rendered, Tit. 3:5; Eph. 2:8-9.

III. Not By General Proclamation

1. In ancient times the Romans offered citizenship to entire cities, nations.

2. Some believe that God will, in the end, make all citizens.

3. Jesus says, Ye must be born again.

4. Do the will of the Father, Matt. 7:21-23.

5. Be obedient to Jesus, Heb. 5:8-9.

Conclusion:

1. The kingdom Jesus speaks of is His church, Matt. 16:16-18. Entering the kingdom is entering the church.

2. Entering the church requires believers to repent and be baptized, Acts 2:38; Acts 2:47.

3. So, we enter the kingdom by the same means. We are born again by the same means.
