Verily, Verily and Bread From Heaven
Categories: Easy Sermons to Preach, Sermon Outlines, Short Sermon Outlines, Short Sermons, Textual Sermon OutlinesIntroduction: Read John 6:26
1. There is great folly in seeking from Jesus what He does not offer.
1) Vindication of your false doctrine.
2) Health and wealth, name it and claim it.
3) Gentle Jesus, meek and mild, non-judgmental, even “gay” Jesus, etc.
2. Jesus came with a particular purpose in mind, Luke 19:10 (Seek, save lost).
3. With a “Verily, Verily,” Jesus affirms this: He came from heaven and gives life to the world. He is God (John 1:1-3) and He has life to give.
4. He will not:
1) Vindicate
2) Make you rich.
3) Sooth your guilt without repentance.
DISCUSSION:
I. The Greater Importance of the Enduring Meat.
1. The Not … But construction.
2. Order your priorities, Matt. 16:26; Luke 16:19.
II. Work the Works of God.
1. God’s command for mankind, “Believe on the Son,” John 8:24; Acts 4:1-2; Rom. 1:16.
2. This excludes the works of men. Trusting in Buddha, Muhammad is insufficient.
III. Believe the Signs.
1. The manna was a sign of God’s presence and care for Israel.
2. Jesus’ very presence was a sign from God. He had just fed 5,000 men + women and children.
3. John 20:30-31. Jesus has never offered personalized signs. He gives those that will prove His case for all people of all time, Matt. 11:2-5.
Conclusion:
1. There is so much more here. These things we will take with us.
1) The bread that endures is first priority.
2) We must work the works of God.
3) We must believe the signs.
2. Verily, Verily.
