Things Aren't Always As They Appear
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe story is told of a woman who was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft to stretch their legs, the plane would re-board in 50 minutes.
Everyone got off the plane, with the exception of a blind lady and a man who figured the lady was blind because of her guide dog, who was laying quietly underneath the seats. The man could tell that the lady had often flown this flight before because the pilot approached her and called her by name.
He said, “Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?” The blind lady said, “No, but maybe Buddy would like to stretch his legs.”
Imagine the reaction of people at the gate area, when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a guide dog for the blind! Even worse, the pilot was wearing sun glasses!
People began scattering. They not only tried to change planes — they were trying to change airlines!
Moral of the story: Things aren’t always as they appear. (Matthew 23:27-28; cf. 1 Samuel 16:7).
